Family Health Services
Provides overall direction, planning, and coordination of public health programs and primary care for families across Southern Highlands Province. Priority areas include reproductive health, child development, maternal care, immunisation, nutrition, and community wellbeing, delivered through Mendi Provincial Hospital, district health facilities, and outreach programs.
The division is headed by the Deputy Director of Public Health – Family Health Services, who provides leadership and technical oversight across sub-programs including EPI, Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, Lifestyle Disease, Gender-Based Violence and Disability, WASH, and Emergency Response. Program implementation is aligned with the National Health Plan 2021–2030, Key Result Area 4.
Our Programs
EPI Program
Implements and coordinates immunisation programs, ensuring vaccines reach children, women, and communities across Southern Highlands Province to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases and improve population immunity.
Maternal and Child Health Program
Improve maternal and child health through prenatal care, immunization, nutrition, family planning, and disease prevention services.
Nutrition Program
Promotes healthy diets, combats malnutrition, supports maternal and child nutrition, and prevents diet-related diseases through education and interventions
Family Planning Program
Provides counseling, contraception, reproductive health education, and services to empower individuals and reduce maternal and child mortality
Gender Based Violence & Disability Program
The GBV (Gender-Based Violence) Program at SHPHA provides support services, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of gender-based violence.
Lifestyle Program
Focuses on prevention, early detection, and management of diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and other lifestyle-related diseases.
Disaster Management
Prepares for and responds to health crises, natural disasters, and emergencies, ensuring rapid care and recovery.
WASH Program
Ensures access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education to prevent waterborne diseases
